What makes Neon Boots special
Six Houstonians opened Neon Boots in 2013 in the former Esquire Ballroom, a 1955 honky-tonk where George Jones, Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn performed. Willie Nelson played here in the house band as a young musician. One bar recalls that era with memorabilia.
The two-step on the big dance floor is the focus. There are free dance lessons, live music and karaoke. Texas Monthly counted Neon Boots among the best honky-tonks in the state.
Atmosphere and crowd
The operators call Neon Boots an „Everybody Bar“: gay men, lesbians, couples and about a third straight guests, from young two-steppers to experienced dancers over 60.
A good fit if you …
- want to dance or learn two-step or line dance
- like country music and Texan flair
- appreciate a mixed crowd
Not ideal if you …
- are travelling without a car or rideshare
- want to go out on a Monday or Wednesday
