What makes 12th Street Beach special
The stretch in front of Lummus Park at 12th Street has long been the meeting point of the LGBTQ community in South Beach. Since June 2022 it has been home to the city’s first Pride lifeguard tower in rainbow colours, designed by William Lane.
Directly opposite is Ocean Drive with the Palace and cafés, and two blocks further is Washington Avenue with Twist. You can run or cycle along the Beachwalk, and the Muscle Beach outdoor gym is free to use.
Atmosphere and crowd
Relaxed with locals during the week, busier at weekends, with many men between their mid-20s and mid-40s. During Winter Party and Miami Beach Pride the beach turns into a big party.
A good fit if you …
- want to combine the beach and the scene on foot
- need loungers, showers and toilets nearby
- are in town for Pride or Winter Party
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a quiet, unspoilt beach
- want a nudist beach
