What makes the Palace special
The Palace opened on Ocean Drive in 1988 and lived through South Beach’s glamorous Versace years. After a quieter phase, Thomas Donall took over in 2007 and rebuilt it around street drag shows, T-dances and the drag brunch.
The stage opens onto the pavement, and the queens perform among the tables and passers-by, often right in the street. The kitchen serves from brunch into the evening, with steaks, ribs and fish.
Atmosphere and crowd
A crowd for everyone: gay men, bachelorette parties, couples, families with older children and lots of tourists. The mood is loud, cheerful and very participatory. Guests praise the queens, the team and the beachfront location.
A good fit if you …
- want to experience a drag brunch with a show
- want to sit centrally by the beach
- are out with a mixed group
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a bar for men to flirt
- want a quiet evening
