What makes Kill Your Idol special
Kill Your Idol opened in 2012 as a deliberate counterpoint to South Beach’s commercial club scene. It takes its cue from New York’s late-1970s no wave movement, with young local bands and artists on stage.
There is no cover, no reservations and the drinks are cheap. The in-house drag troupe Eye Dolls performs regularly, and on Thursdays a queen hosts the karaoke.
Atmosphere and crowd
Not an exclusively gay venue, but a mixed, alternative bar with lots of queer guests, mostly between their early 20s and late 30s. Guests praise the relaxed atmosphere, the music and the prices.
A good fit if you …
- want to experience South Beach without dress codes and VIP tables
- like indie, live music and karaoke
- want cheap drinks late at night
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a bar with a mostly gay crowd
- are under 21
