What makes Bar Marienhof special

Bar Marienhof has been around for more than 18 years, and the host is Janos. It is away from the big scene neighbourhoods in Prenzlauer Berg and advertises fair prices. Red paper hearts hang at the bar, and above the counter a theatre curtain on the ceiling hints at a small stage. On the left there is a chill-out area with a red-white-red wall and pictures of queer icons.

Mostly pop is played, with matching music videos on several screens. Prices are slightly below the Berlin average.

Atmosphere and crowd

The crowd is mostly between 20 and 30, plus older regulars. It is less international than in Kreuzberg or Neukölln, but many groups come. Most guests stay in their seats and there is rather little flirting. The bar is a good way into the scene for newcomers because the team is very welcoming.
