What makes Bar Renard special

Bar Renard is run by the team behind Bistro Tendresse across the street and Bar Palco in Verdun. The name comes from “faire un renard”, Montréal slang for drinking more than planned. The room has 75 seats, wooden floors, large bookshelves, brown leather benches and a blue quilted bar with lots of small light bulbs.

There are around a dozen house cocktails, some by the litre, plus organic and natural wines, microbrewery beer, whisky and gin. The small menu is designed for sharing: grilled cheese, croque-monsieur, vegan and gluten-free nachos, and cheese and charcuterie boards. In summer the bar opens onto the large terrace on Sainte-Catherine.

Atmosphere and crowd

The crowd is young and mixed, queer and straight, many locals. It is not a scene bar for a particular crowd but a relaxed place for everyone, popular for the “5 à 7” after work. Guests praise the cocktails, friendly staff, music and terrace.
