What makes Bar59 special
Bar59 is on Johannesgasse in the Lorenz old town, a few minutes’ walk from the main station. Since 2012 Klaus Höcherl and Manfred Kümmerling, known to guests as Klaus and Manny, have run the small bar. Many describe it as a queer living-room place where you quickly feel among friends. One guest compares the atmosphere to the kitchen parties of old.
Drinks include Franconian Kellerbier on tap, wine and homemade schnapps, plus changing drinks specials. Musically it often heads towards Schlager. The crowd is colourful and tolerant, and every age group is welcome. There are regular theme parties, and you’ll find out the current dates on site.
It’s only open Thursday to Saturday, and before public holidays as on a Saturday. La Bas on Hallplatz is just a few minutes away and stays open until daybreak.
A good fit if you …
- are looking for a small, warm bar
- like Schlager
- want to try Franconian Kellerbier
Not ideal if you …
- want to go out Sunday to Wednesday
- are looking for lots of space or a dance floor
