What makes the Boatslip special
The Boatslip opened in 1967 as a motor inn and is now best known for its tea dance. In the late afternoon a DJ plays on the open deck by the pool while the sun sets over Cape Cod Bay. It is busiest between 5:30 and 7 pm. On parade day during Carnival week in August, the biggest tea dance of the year takes place here.
The Boatslip is also a hotel right on the water. Many rooms look out over the bay, and some have a balcony above the deck. According to reviews, hotel guests get into the tea dance at no extra cost. The season traditionally starts on Memorial Day weekend and is busiest during the theme weeks in July and August.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mostly male and spans generations, from day visitors to regulars who have come back every summer for decades. Guests praise the central location, the renovated rooms and the friendly staff. After the tea dance the crowd traditionally moves on towards Commercial Street.
