What makes Commander D stand out

Commander D is the second venue of a well-known Taipei bar with roots in the leather and fetish scene. It’s in a basement on the corner of Kaifeng and Hanzhong Street, just a few minutes’ walk from the Red House. Inside it’s dim, the music international, the decor unusual and stylish.

There are regular themed parties, including men-only nights, and occasional risqué shows. The bar posts current dates on Instagram. The well-made cocktails get praise, and many guests also drink wheat beer. Payment is in cash.

The crowd is mostly male, with locals and many travellers. Guests describe the mood as lively and a little cruisy, and the team as attentive. During the week it’s quieter; on theme nights and at weekends it gets much busier.
