What makes Dorothy’s stand out

The name is a nod to Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz”, a well-known reference in queer pop culture. The bar is on the first floor above Trengganu Street, in the touristy heart of Chinatown. Its centrepiece is the L-shaped balcony, from which you look out over the lanes and lanterns. Inside it’s small and cosy.

The bar serves cocktails, beer and wine. The bartenders will also mix you a drink to your taste, and there are absinthe towers and shots. The dress code is casual, although flip-flops aren’t welcome. The entrance is on the street and marked with rainbow flags.

Atmosphere and crowd

The crowd is queer mixed: young locals, regulars and travellers. Google reviews repeatedly praise the friendly staff, the welcoming mood and the balcony for people-watching. Several guests explicitly recommend the bar for solo travellers because it’s easy to get chatting.
