What makes Freedj stand out
Freedj is on the Marais’ main gay street, a few doors from COX. The name alludes to the DJs who play here all evening. Early in the evening there is table football and colourful apéritifs, and during the week the bar has more of an after-work feel.
Different music plays on two levels, and at the weekend the basement opens as a small club with dance, pop and disco. Happy hour runs until 10 pm, after which the bar fills with groups partying here before, or instead of, a big club.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is LGBTQ mixed and noticeably younger than in the bars next door, with many students and groups of friends.
A good fit if you …
- are under 30 and want to dance without going to a big club
- like pop and disco
- like partying in groups
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a men’s bar, then COX is a better bet
- want a quiet bar for conversation
