What makes Duplex stand out
Duplex has been around since 1980, making it one of the oldest gay bars in the Marais. There is no light show and no go-go boys, but a central bar around which everything gathers, and changing art exhibitions on the walls.
The room is small and seats are scarce, and that is exactly what makes the atmosphere: you get chatting quickly, and the bar staff speak English. Beer and wine are considered good value for the Marais.
Atmosphere and crowd
According to Time Out, hipsters, bikers, students and expats meet here, most between their mid-20s and mid-40s. Google reviews describe Duplex as a friendly, arty neighbourhood bar where you also feel welcome on your own.
A good fit if you …
- want to talk rather than dance
- are looking for a bar with art and character
- are out alone and looking for company
Not ideal if you …
- want a party with a DJ and dance floor
- want to start before 8 pm, it’s closed before then
