What makes habs special
The association was founded in the early 1970s as Homosexuelle Arbeitsgruppen Basel, making it one of the oldest queer organisations in Switzerland. Today it sees itself as a community that stands up for a self-determined life for all queer people. Members can start their own projects, get involved in working groups or simply meet like-minded people.
Good to know
habs is above all an association, not an open venue with fixed opening hours. Meetings, discussion groups and events are listed in the calendar on the website; the free counselling hotline is usually staffed on Wednesday evenings. Basel Tourism also recommends the habs calendar as an overview of the city’s queer scene.
A good fit if you …
- are looking to connect with the community or a group in Basel
- would like to volunteer or start a project
- need someone to listen on the phone
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a meeting place with a bar and fixed opening hours
