What makes Kíkí stand out
Kíkí is in the rainbow-painted building at Laugavegur 22, the main street of the city centre. Bar 22 is on the ground floor of the same building, and Kíkí occupies the upper floors. It’s Reykjavík’s only permanent queer club, so at weekends it’s the meeting point for almost everyone who is part of the scene or visiting it.
The music is pop, Eurovision and hits from the 90s and 2000s, plus drag shows with local performers, karaoke and queer club nights. Drinks are served at the bar.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mixed: queer Icelanders, travellers, allies and a noticeably large number of straight people. It’s busiest on Fridays and Saturdays after midnight, when it gets packed and hot. Guests praise the drag shows, the dance music, the friendly team and the open, colourful atmosphere.
A good fit if you …
- want to party queer in Reykjavík
- love Eurovision and pop
- want to see drag shows
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a men-only bar
- want a quiet conversation
- want to go out Sunday to Wednesday
