Reykjavík

Reykjavík has a small scene but a huge heart – and one of the warmest Pride festivals in Europe. Iceland is one of the most open countries in the world, and you can feel it throughout the city.

Around Laugavegur

Almost everything happens on the shopping street Laugavegur. At number 22 you’ll find the cosy Bar 22 downstairs and upstairs the club Kiki Queer Bar, where people dance until half past four at weekends. During the week it’s quiet; Thursday to Saturday is party time.

When to go?

  • August – Reykjavík Pride (Hinsegin dagar): From 4 to 9 August in 2026; the big parade (Gleðigangan) set off from Hallgrímskirkja through the city on 8 August.
  • June to August – midnight sun: Bright nights and trips into nature combine perfectly with the nightlife.

Our favourites

  • Kiki Queer Bar – drag Fridays under the rainbow

Practical tips

  • Iceland is expensive – make use of happy hours in the bars, many of which run until around 11pm.
  • The nightlife starts late: there’s little going on at Kiki before midnight.
  • The national association Samtökin ’78 is a good point of contact for information about the community.
