What makes La Cueva stand out
Boate La Cueva was founded in 1964, making it a piece of living history in old Copacabana. The venue is split in two: a small bar at the front and below it a rustic basement bar with a dance floor and good sound. Pop, Brazilian music, 80s hits and dance are played.
Today La Cueva focuses on party nights for more mature men, bears and admirers, such as the Noite dos Maduros on Saturdays. According to the listings there’s a darkroom, and the dress code is casual to sporty. Tickets for individual parties are available online in advance.
Atmosphere and crowd
Guests describe the atmosphere as friendly and familiar, almost like a neighbourhood pub. The curious and travellers are welcome, and according to guests, if you come alone you’ll quickly find company. One visitor was reminded of the golden age of the Copacabana discos.
