What makes Praia Maria Luísa stand out
The main beach of Praia Maria Luísa is an ordinary swimming and family beach with a restaurant, toilets, lifeguards, sunbed hire and water sports. The golden sand, clear water and rocky backdrop are praised.
The gay and nudist area is at the western end. Behind it opens a small, quiet cove where you can tan without tan lines. You can reach it either over the rocks along the beach, which is not possible around two hours before and after high tide, or via a steep footpath between Alfagar Village and Alfagar Aparthotel. It is not an official nudist beach, so discretion is advised.
Atmosphere and crowd
The cove is quiet and rarely crowded. The number of gay visitors varies greatly by season and day, and outside high summer it can be almost empty.
A good fit if you …
- are looking for peace and tan-line-free sunbathing
- don’t mind walking a stretch over rocks
- are staying in Albufeira anyway
Not ideal if you …
- expect a lively gay beach with a bar
- are not steady on your feet, the access is steep
