Since 2017 Queer/Bar has been the drag address on Capitol Hill, with a long runway, karaoke and parties. Since July 2026 the bar has been temporarily closed due to a change of ownership, and the new owners have announced its reopening.

What makes Queer/Bar special

Queer/Bar opened in 2017 on 11th Avenue in the former Purr Cocktail Lounge premises. Its centrepiece is a long runway that made the bar Capitol Hill’s unofficial drag headquarters. The signature show Mx. ran on Fridays and Saturdays, often with guests from „RuPaul’s Drag Race“. A mural honours Bosco and Irene DuBois, who went from here to Drag Race.

In July 2026 Dustin Akers and Scott Walent, who has also run the Cuff since 2025, took over the bar and closed it temporarily. They speak of a refresh, not a complete overhaul. Weekly karaoke, quiz and sports nights are planned, drag remains the focus, and the kitchen is to reopen with a new menu. The bar stays in queer hands.

Atmosphere and crowd

Until now it was rather relaxed and local during the week, with partying at the weekend. Guests praised the drag performances, friendly bartenders, good drinks and the music on the dance floor.
