Capitol Hill is one of the liveliest gayborhoods on the American West Coast. Within a few blocks between Pike, Pine and Broadway there are leather bars, a legendary lesbian bar and dance clubs with decades of history.
Capitol Hill
Almost the entire scene is concentrated on Capitol Hill. People have been dancing at Neighbours Nightclub & Lounge on Broadway since 1983, and women have been meeting at the Wildrose since 1984. The leather and bear scene has two addresses: the large The Cuff Complex and the rough Seattle Eagle. The tiny Crescent Lounge has cult status for karaoke nights, and Queer/Bar with its drag runway is about to reopen after a change of ownership. Bars close at 2 am, some clubs stay open longer at the weekend.
When to go?
- June – Seattle Pride: on the last weekend in June, the parade and PrideFest draw hundreds of thousands, and Capitol Hill celebrates all weekend (check the date with the organisers).
- October – Halloween on Capitol Hill: bars such as the Cuff celebrate Halloween with themed parties – in 2026, for example, with a “Halloween Double Feature” on 30 and 31 October.
Our favourites
- Wildrose – four decades of lesbian bar culture, unique on the West Coast.
- Neighbours Nightclub & Lounge – a piece of Seattle club history that is still dancing.

Practical tips
- Capitol Hill is compact and easy to explore on foot; from the centre, the Light Rail runs to Capitol Hill station.
- In Washington, bars may serve alcohol until 2 am, and entry is only from 21 – bring ID.
- Even in summer it quickly gets cool in Seattle in the evening; a jacket for the walk between bars is worth it.
