What makes Streetbar special
The name is a nod to Tennessee Williams’ „A Streetcar Named Desire“. The bar opened in 1991 and was the first on Arenas Road, from which today’s gay strip later developed. The co-owner likes to compare it to the bar from the sitcom „Cheers“.
The drinks are strong and affordable, and the martinis come especially recommended. People chat and clink glasses under a chandelier. From Sunday to Tuesday it’s karaoke from 9 pm, and outside there’s a patio.
Atmosphere and crowd
During the day it’s mainly locals and older regulars at the bar. In the evening and at the weekend, visitors from out of town and a younger crowd with a soft spot for silver foxes join in. With 4.5 stars Streetbar is one of the best-rated bars in town, praised for conversation, karaoke and happy hour.
