What makes WunderBar special
WunderBar is right in the middle of St. Pauli, a few minutes from the Reeperbahn, and sees itself as the city’s gay living room. The decor glows in red and gold, the bar serves cocktails and shots, and a DJ plays. Anything fun goes, and musically the bar is reminiscent of Mumu in Cologne.
Because the space is small, you almost inevitably get talking, at the latest while queuing at the bar. The crowd is mostly young, open and up for a party.
When it gets busy
It’s fullest on Fridays and Saturdays from around 11 pm, when the party goes on until 6 am. During the week it’s more relaxed, and it’s easier to get into longer conversations. As WunderBar opens daily, it’s a reliable address on the Kiez even on a Monday or Tuesday.
A good fit if you …
- want to dance and party rather than just sit
- like a young crowd between 20 and 35
- want to go out during the week too
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a quiet bar for a longer conversation, Toom Peerstall a few corners away is the place for that
- don’t like crowds, it gets cramped at weekends
