What makes Freddie’s special

Freddie Lutz has run Freddie’s Beach Bar in Arlington, Virginia, one of the best-known queer addresses in the greater Washington area, for many years. In November 2021 he opened a second location in Rehoboth Beach, in the former premises of the bar The Pond on South First Street. The interior follows the original: pink and purple walls, lots of decor and a shelf full of Barbie dolls. In the middle is a large square bar.

Freddie’s is a bar and restaurant with a full menu and an outdoor terrace. On Fridays there is the “Freddie’s Follies” drag show followed by karaoke, and on Saturdays there is singing and partying too. After a refurbishment the bar also runs as a music video bar.

Atmosphere and crowd

The crowd is mostly male but mixed, LGBTQ and straight-friendly, with locals and summer visitors. Guests describe the atmosphere as cheerful, exuberant and warm, praising the staff, drag shows and karaoke. Outside the season it is easy to get a seat at the bar.
