Rehoboth Beach is the East Coast’s queer summer resort – the “Provincetown of the South” for Washington and Baltimore. In summer Baltimore Avenue is buzzing; in winter things get much quieter.

Baltimore Avenue & Poodle Beach

The core of the scene is on Baltimore Avenue, where Aqua Bar & Grill with its patio and Blue Moon with fine dining and drag are right next door to each other. On Rehoboth Avenue, The Purple Parrot welcomes you to its beer garden, and things get camp at Freddie’s Beach Bar. For dancing, head out of town to Diego’s Bar & Nightclub with the biggest dance floor in the area. During the day people meet at Poodle Beach at the southern end of the boardwalk. There is currently no dedicated lesbian bar.

When to go?

  • July – Rehoboth Beach Pride: In mid-July, organised by Sussex Pride (check dates with the organiser).
  • September – Bear Weekend: In 2026 the 11th edition took place from 16 to 20 September, with parties at Aqua and events all over town; the weekend before, over Labor Day, CAMP Rehoboth holds its SUNFESTIVAL.

Practical tips

  • Rehoboth is a seasonal resort: it’s busiest between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and in winter many venues have shorter hours – check beforehand.
  • In Delaware alcohol service ends at 1am, and most bars close by 2am at the latest.
  • Poodle Beach at the southern end of the boardwalk is the traditional meeting place for gay beachgoers.
