What makes Perth Steam Works special

The entrance is on Forbes Road, recognisable by the black-and-white sign. Inside there is a dry sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, plus showers, a darkroom, a maze and a BDSM area with a sling. Condoms and lube are free.

You can book private suites with key-card access, their own air conditioning, flat-screen TV and fresh bed linen. There is a bar with café, and M Clinic offers free weekly HIV and STI testing in the sauna for men who have sex with men. You can pay by cash or card, and there is an ATM on site for discretion.

Atmosphere and crowd

Things are clothing-optional and low-key. The sauna is known for its big bear events, and on Tuesdays there are theme nights for younger guests. It is busiest on Friday and Saturday nights.

The crowd ranges from students to older regulars, with bears especially present. If you want to carry on after the bars in Northbridge, it is not far.
