What makes Pritličje stand out

Pritličje (“ground floor”) opened in 2014 on Mestni trg, in the historic centre right next to the Town Hall. It sees itself as an urban cultural centre with a political mission: by day a café with window seats and a large terrace, in the evening a bar with DJ nights, concerts, talks and discussions, plus a small comic shop. The focus is on electronic music and Slovenian acts, and partners include Radio Študent, ŠKUC and the City of Women festival.

For the queer scene, the venue is more than just any café: it’s considered the successor to Café Open, which closed in 2013, some of the team are LGBT themselves, and the venue visibly supports queer causes. But it isn’t a pure gay bar; queer nights are part of a broad programme.

Atmosphere and crowd

The crowd is young, creative and mixed. Guests praise the location, the atmosphere and the fair prices. With more than 1,300 Google reviews, Pritličje is one of the best-known cafés in the old town.
