What makes Tantric stand out

Tantric welcomed its first guests in 2001 and, by its own account, was the first bar on Neil Road to fly a rainbow flag. It’s in a historic shophouse in Tanjong Pagar, between Chinatown and the financial district. The centrepiece is the open courtyard with palms and a Zen garden, plus indoor rooms with catwalk lighting, a pool table and a dartboard.

The menu features draught beer, classics and its own creations such as the Blue Spin, which was invented here. Many cocktails also come by the jug for groups. On Fridays and Saturdays there’s a liquid buffet from 8 to 11 pm, and between 2 and 3 am every day all shots are 1 for 1. There are also snacks such as pizza and truffle fries.

Atmosphere and crowd

During the week guests sit relaxed on the benches in the courtyard. On Fridays and Saturdays, by contrast, the bar is packed to the last seat. Catchy pop and dance play, and music is the topic guests mention most often in Google reviews.

The crowd is mostly gay men, a mix of locals, expats and travellers. Lesbian guests and groups of friends are regulars too.
