What makes Madrigal stand out
The bar was founded by Cuban director Rafael Rosales. Inside it feels like a big living room with art on the walls, playful décor and comfortable seating areas, plus a cigar lounge and the balcony. Every now and then someone plays the piano or there’s live music.
Guests praise the well-made cocktails, the tapas, such as fish croquettes, and fair prices. Cuba’s supply situation, with power cuts and shortages, also affects restaurants and bars; the bar posts current opening hours on Facebook.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mixed: locals, creatives, gay and lesbian guests and travellers. The bar is more gay-friendly than a pure scene venue, and the mood is calm and sociable, ideal for conversation.
A good fit if you …
- are looking for a relaxed, artistic bar
- want good cocktails at fair prices
- want to get to know Havana’s cultural scene
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a gay party with a dance floor
- rely on fixed opening hours
