What makes King Bar stand out
King Bar is on Calle 23 between D and E, in the heart of Vedado. It’s considered one of the city’s first gay-friendly discos and today attracts a diverse, queer and arty crowd. Things only really get going after midnight, when the DJs start. The cocktail bar mixes drinks, and sometimes there’s drag or live music.
On busy nights it’s worth booking. Because of the power cuts in Cuba, a night can also be cancelled at short notice; current information is on the bar’s social media channels.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mixed, with locals and travellers partying together. Guests praise the energetic atmosphere, good DJ music, cool air conditioning and friendly staff. It’s busiest at weekends.
A good fit if you …
- want to dance after midnight
- like DJ sets and Cuban hits
- like partying among locals
Not ideal if you …
- like it quiet
- want a party before midnight
