Cuba has changed from a country of re-education camps into one of the most legally progressive countries in Latin America. In everyday life the scene, especially in Havana, is open and warm, but the severe economic and energy crisis of 2026 overshadows any trip.
Legal situation: Since the Family Code of 2022, approved by referendum, same-sex couples can marry and adopt children. The 2019 constitution prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. However, independent LGBTIQ organisations and demonstrations outside state structures (CENESEX) are not freely permitted.
