What makes the centre stand out
The centre opened in 2008 and is run by the City of Tel Aviv-Jaffa. It is housed in a restored 1920 Bauhaus building at the southern end of Gan Meir Park that used to be a school. Many of the city’s LGBTQ groups work under its roof: social and therapy groups, and programmes for young people, parents, religious people, trans people, older people and people living with HIV.
There is a clinic focused on LGBTQ health, HIV testing, therapists and mentors for trans people. The calendar features drag shows, theatre, concerts, parties and exhibitions, plus festivities in the park during Pride. In the garden, memorials commemorate the victims of the 2009 attack on the LGBTQ youth centre Bar-Noar and the LGBTQ victims of Nazi persecution.
Atmosphere and crowd
Locals of all ages, groups and families meet here. The café on the ground floor and terrace explicitly sees itself as a safe meeting place. Visitors praise the renovated building, the friendly team, the park and the food in the café.
