Tel Aviv remains the queerest city in the Middle East – despite the difficult years behind it. The scene has changed: fewer permanent bars, but big party series, beach life and a community that is reclaiming its nightlife after war and rocket alerts.
Safety & legal situation
- Travel advice: The German Foreign Office (as of 10 October 2026, unchanged since 15 September 2026) advises against travel to Israel – including Tel Aviv. A travel warning applies to the Gaza Strip and the West Bank (except East Jerusalem), and travel to the border area with Gaza and to northern Israel north of Route 85 is strongly discouraged. Be sure to check the current advice at auswaertiges-amt.de before travelling.
- Situation in the region: Israel formally remains in a state of war. A fragile ceasefire with Hamas has been in place since October 2025, and a temporary ceasefire with Lebanon since mid-April 2026. After the fighting with Iran from the end of February 2026, the US and Iran signed a declaration of intent to end hostilities on 17 June 2026. Renewed escalation is possible at any time.
- Rocket alerts: Expect alerts and time spent in shelters. Install the “Red Alert” app, follow the instructions of the Home Front Command (information in English on tel. 104) and always keep your phone and power bank charged. Memorise the way to the nearest shelter in your hotel and in bars.
- Flights and departure: Airspace closures can cause flights to be cancelled at short notice and delay departure. Allow extra time, arrive at Ben Gurion Airport early and expect thorough security questioning. Laptops are sometimes retained for inspection.
- Terror threat: The German Foreign Office warns of a high risk of attacks, including in Tel Aviv. Be particularly alert at bus stops, stations and large gatherings, and register on the German crisis preparedness list (Elefand) before travelling.
The scene
Many scene classics such as Shpagat and Layla closed during the war years, and nightlife today largely revolves around roving parties. A fixed anchor is Mash Central on Allenby, which was rebuilt after being hit by a rocket in June 2025, joined at the end of 2025 by Callas with drag shows. In the green courtyard of Phi Garden you’ll meet a mixed crowd, and the big nights take place at Haoman 17, where series such as DRECK or Gender Blender run until morning. By day the city belongs to Hilton Beach with its rainbow umbrellas, and the LGBTQ Center in Gan Meir Park is the community’s meeting place. Going out starts late: there’s hardly anything happening before 11pm, and public transport stops for Shabbat.
When to go?
- June – Tel Aviv-Yafo Pride: On 12 June 2026, after a two-year pause due to the war, the parade once again went from Gordon Beach to Charles Clore Park, with more than 100,000 people. Around the parade there’s a whole Pride week with parties, drag and culture.
- October – DRECK “Wild West”: The cult party series takes place on 23 October 2026 at Haoman 17 – loud, sweaty and until morning (check dates with the organiser).
Our favourites
- Mash Central – the bar that got back on its feet after a rocket hit
- Hilton Beach – rainbow umbrellas, the Mediterranean and sunset
- Haoman 17 – where the big party nights go on until morning

Practical tips
- Friday and Saturday are the Israeli weekend. From Friday afternoon to Saturday evening (Shabbat) hardly any buses or trains run, so taxis via Gett or Yango are the best option then.
- Parties often change venue and date. You’ll find current events on Secret Tel Aviv and the party series’ Instagram accounts (e.g. @drecktlv).
- Same-sex couples are visible and accepted in everyday life in Tel Aviv. In religious neighbourhoods and other cities such as Jerusalem, more restraint is customary.
