Brisbane is more relaxed than Sydney, but its scene has more history than many people think. Fortitude Valley is the nightlife district, while Spring Hill and West End provide the cosier alternatives.
Fortitude Valley and around
The Valley is the heart of the nightlife: The Wickham offers a pub, terrace and drag, and The Beat Megaclub has been the place for the late part of the night since 1983. Right next door in Spring Hill, The Sportsman Hotel is the city’s gay living room, with bear, leather and quiz nights. South of the river, Come to Daddy in West End scores as an independent queer bar, and for men there’s WET Spa & Sauna in Bowen Hills. Fridays and Saturdays are the busiest.
