Tenerife doesn’t have a scene strip like Gran Canaria, but three hubs: the party south, charming Puerto de la Cruz in the north and the capital, Santa Cruz. If you know where to look, you’ll find warm-hearted bars, drag stages and sunshine all year round across the whole island.
The scene
In the south, nightlife is concentrated on the Verónicas strip in Playa de las Américas, where Exito Gay Club parties with drag and DJs until four in the morning at weekends. During the day people meet at Fiji Beach Club on Playa de Fañabé. In the north, Puerto de la Cruz is more traditional and local: Anderson has been around since the eighties, and at Vinoteca Con Pasión you can start the evening with a glass of wine. In Santa Cruz, the local scene parties at weekends at the karaoke bar Héroes.
When to go?
- February – Carnaval de Santa Cruz: One of the largest carnivals in the world, with plenty of glitter, costumes and a strong queer presence on the streets of the capital.
- June – Tenerife Pride: A smaller Pride event with a cultural and party programme, much smaller than Maspalomas on Gran Canaria (check dates with the organiser).
Our favourites
- Anderson Gay Pub & Show Bar – more than 40 years of show history in Puerto de la Cruz
- Fiji Beach Club – the perfect beach day on a Bali bed
Queer city tours
Want to get to know the scene during the day too? A tour with local guides is a great way to do it:
- Comedy drag dinner show – over 800 reviews, 4.6 ★

Practical tips
- The south and north are a good hour’s drive apart. If you want to experience both, hire a car or book two places to stay.
- The bars are often only open at weekends, and there’s little going on during the week. Check opening hours on Instagram or Facebook beforehand.
- Playa de la Tejita and beaches near the airport in the south are known as nudist and gay meeting spots; they’re best reached by car.
