Key West

Key West is the southernmost point of the US and has been a dream destination for gay travellers for decades – “One Human Family” is the official motto here. Among colourful wooden houses, sunsets and drag shows late into the night, the island lives a permissiveness that is second to none.

Duval Street

Gay life is concentrated on upper Duval Street: at the corner of Petronia, Bourbon St. Pub, 801 Bourbon Bar and the leather bar Saloon 1 are practically on the same block, plus the drag club Aqua. Further south, La Te Da awaits with cabaret and the legendary Sunday Tea Dance. You can stay in style at men’s guesthouses such as Island House or the Equator Resort on Fleming Street. The bars are open until 4am, and everything is easily reached on foot or by bike.

When to go?

• June – Key West Pride: Five days of parties, a parade and pool events; from 3 to 7 June in 2026, with the finale traditionally held at La Te Da.
• October – Fantasy Fest: Ten days of costume carnival with a big parade; from 16 to 25 October in 2026, with the parade on 24 October.
