Limassol

Limassol has beaches, vineyards and a glittering marina, but no gay bar of its own. That’s why we present the queer scene of all of Cyprus here: Limassol with its gay-friendly bars, plus Larnaca, Paphos and Nicosia, all of which can be reached in a little over an hour.

The Cyprus scene, including Limassol

In Limassol the community meets at Sousami, with vinyl and a garden. There’s a real gay bar in Larnaca: Lube Bar, with a garden courtyard and boat parties in summer. In Paphos, Different Bar has been inviting people to party since 1993, and in Nicosia Ithaki is the capital’s meeting place. The scene is small, friendly and more mixed than exclusive.

When to go?

  • June – Cyprus Pride: The Pride march in Nicosia, with a programme lasting several weeks, had record attendance in 2026.
  • September – United by Pride: Queer groups from both parts of the island meet in the UN buffer zone in Nicosia (check dates with the organiser).

Practical tips

  • Without a hire car, the scene on Cyprus is hard to reach. Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and Nicosia are each 45–70 minutes apart.
  • Outside the bars and in rural areas, society is still conservative and shaped by the church; open displays of affection in public tend to attract attention.
  • Governor’s Beach east of Limassol and the nudist end of Pissouri in the west are popular gay beaches.
