Hong Kong’s queer scene is compact, diverse and surprisingly lively – spread across high-rise floors, hidden backyards and steep old-town lanes. Between Central, Sheung Wan, Causeway Bay and Kowloon you’ll find drag, karaoke and cocktails with a view.
Central, Sheung Wan & Causeway Bay
There’s no classic gay strip, but there are clear hotspots. In Sheung Wan, FLM with drag and karaoke is the crowd-puller, while in Central LinQ on Pottinger Street and the hidden T:ME Bar just off Hollywood Road beckon. In Causeway Bay you can have a drink at Bing Bing HK on the 22nd floor or enjoy a drag brunch at Vivere. Finally, on the Kowloon side, Boo Bar is home to bears and karaoke fans.
When to go?

Our favourites
- FLM – drag, karaoke and the best party atmosphere in town
- Boo Bar – a warm-hearted bear den on the Kowloon side

Practical tips
- Many bars are on the upper floors of commercial buildings – check the floor number and take the lift.
- Same-sex couples do not have legal equality, but in everyday life Hong Kong is tolerant in a big-city way; a discreet manner in more conservative neighbourhoods is nonetheless customary.
- Middle Bay Beach between Repulse Bay and South Bay is considered the unofficial gay beach – with no public transport stop right there.
