Bucharest is loud, lively and has a queer scene that is becoming more self-confident. There is not a great deal, but between the Old Town and Q Club you can have a really good night out.
Old Town (Centrul Vechi)
Most routes lead to the Old Town: on Strada Blănari you will find the new iub Bar and the cult bar Thor’s Hammer with karaoke and a bear night. Afterwards it is on to Q Club just outside the centre, the city’s only real gay club, where people party until six in the morning at weekends. Sauna Soho near Unirii Square offers relaxation. Many locals also go to mixed clubs such as Control Club.
When to go?
- June – Bucharest Pride: in 2026 the March of Diversity went through the city on 13 June, accompanied by a week full of cultural and party events – check the 2027 date with the organisers.
- Thursday – manele night at Q Club: Romanian pop-folk to sing along to, a slice of real Bucharest (check the date with the organisers).
Our favourites
- Q Club – two floors, summer garden and drag

Practical tips
- Romania still does not recognise same-sex partnerships, and society is rather conservative: it is better to avoid public displays of affection.
- Taxi scams are common in Bucharest – better to use an app or take public transport.
- Some accommodation reacts with reserve to same-sex couples; if in doubt, ask in advance or choose an explicitly gay-friendly hotel.
