The capital of Paraná is a green, cool city in southern Brazil with a well-preserved old town. The queer scene is modest in size but active, and Grupo Dignidade, one of the country’s oldest LGBTI+ organisations, is based here.
The scene
Nightlife is concentrated in the old town around Largo da Ordem in the São Francisco neighbourhood, home to Verdant and Bwayne. In the Centro there is the lounge bar Odara Café Lounge, and in the Rebouças neighbourhood south of the centre there are several saunas, including Sauna Très Chic Curitiba.
When to go
- May: Marcha pela Diversidade by Grupo Dignidade around the International Day Against Homophobia
- September: Parada da Diversidade, according to GayOut on the last Sunday of the month in the centre

Practical tips
- The centre is quiet at night; use a taxi or ride-hailing service to get home
- Curitiba can get chilly in winter (June to August), and the saunas aren’t always well heated then
- Club party programmes change often, so check Instagram beforehand
