Porto celebrates queer life without much fuss but with a lot of heart, amid azulejos, wine cellars and nights that last until dawn. The scene is smaller than in Lisbon but more personal, and almost everything is within walking distance around Avenida dos Aliados.
Around Aliados and Bolhão
The evening usually starts in the nightlife district around Galeria de Paris, for example at Fabrik Bar, or in a very relaxed way at Bar of Soap near the Bolhão market. After midnight, Café Lusitano and the drag-mad Invictus fill up. When the bars close, the night continues at Zoom, Porto’s club classic on Rua de Passos Manuel, or at the rougher Posh Club. It is busiest at weekends; during the week many venues are closed.

Practical tips
- In Porto the night starts late: before midnight the bars are empty, and the clubs only fill up from three o’clock.
- The Old Town is steep and cobbled. Pack comfortable shoes and take a taxi or Uber for the way back.
