Adelaide

The capital of South Australia is a manageable big city with a festival culture, and wine regions and beaches on its doorstep. The queer scene is small and concentrated in a few established venues in the city centre.

The scene

The hub of the nightlife is Mary’s Poppin in the East End, with drag shows at the weekend. In the south of the CBD is the sauna Pulteney 431, and on the coast south-west of the city is the nudist beach Maslin Beach.

When to go

  • November: Poppin Out, Mary’s Poppin’s street party that kicks off Pride season (7 November in 2026)
  • Halloween: parties at Mary’s Poppin and the Pulteney 431 sauna’s birthday celebration
  • Summer (December to February): beach season at Maslin Beach
