Costa Rica is the most queer-friendly country in Central America and in 2020 became the first there with marriage equality. The capital San José has the nightlife, Manuel Antonio the beach, and the two are easy to combine.
Legal situation: Same-sex couples have been able to marry since May 2020. Homosexuality is legal, and discrimination based on sexual orientation is prohibited, among other things in employment law. Away from the cities, society is in part conservative and religious.
