Oakland

Oakland lies on the east side of San Francisco Bay and is known for its diverse, politically active population. The queer scene is smaller than in San Francisco but strongly shaped by BIPOC and Latinx communities.

The scene

Downtown and Uptown have two clubs with drag and Latin programming, Fluid510 and Qué Rico. In North Oakland is the White Horse Inn, open since 1933. Several bars such as Port Bar and Friends and Family have closed in recent years.

When to go

  • August: Oakland Pride with a parade and festival (16 August in 2026)
  • Weekends: drag brunch at Fluid510
