Medellín

Medellín has transformed itself from a place of crisis into Colombia’s most liberal party city. The scene is young and exuberant and concentrated in El Poblado, with a few real gems in the centre.

El Poblado

Most of the action takes place in El Poblado around Parque Lleras. The evening kicks off on the terrace of Donde Aquellos, and things carry on colourfully at Bar Chiquita and Querida Bar. Later everyone moves on to Club Oráculo, which has a different theme every night. In the centre, in La Candelaria, is the bear disco Vaqueros. Everywhere is busiest at the weekend.

  • June – Marcha del Orgullo: In 2026 the Pride parade went from Calle Barbacoas to Parque de las Luces on 28 June.
  • July – Yo Marcho Trans: In 2026 the trans march took place on 11 July, on the route from Parque de las Luces to Calle Barbacoas.

Practical tips

  • Be careful with dating apps: in July 2026 the US Embassy warned of 13 recent cases in Medellín in which foreigners were lured via dating apps, drugged with substances such as scopolamine (“burundanga”) and robbed. The drug is odourless and tasteless, and victims can be unconscious for up to 24 hours. Meet in public places first, tell friends where you are and always keep an eye on your glass.
  • If you take someone back to your accommodation, have reception register their cédula (the real ID card, not a photo on a phone). Many hotels require this anyway.
  • Don’t wear expensive watches or jewellery, don’t handle your phone openly on the street, and take an Uber or taxi at night.
