Cyprus combines sun, antiquity and meze with a small but increasingly confident queer scene. Cyprus Pride in Nicosia grows year after year, while society away from the cities is still rather conservative.
Legal situation: In the Republic of Cyprus same-sex couples have been able to enter a civil partnership since 2015, but marriage and joint adoption are not possible. There is anti-discrimination protection, among other things in employment, homophobic hate speech is a criminal offence, and conversion therapy has been banned since 2023.
