Oslo is relaxed, cosmopolitan and pretty expensive – but the scene makes up for it with warmth. The most important addresses are close together in the centre, so an evening easily leads from bar to bar.

Around C. J. Hambros plass

On the small square C. J. Hambros plass the classics are right next to each other: César for the first drink on the terrace and London Pub, Oslo’s largest gay bar for more than 30 years. A few minutes’ walk away, a young crowd parties to pop and Eurovision at Elsker. In the Grønland district, older gentlemen meet at the cosy Bob’s Pub. At weekends the party goes on everywhere until half past three.

When to go?

• June – Oslo Pride: A big festival with Pride Park and a parade that traditionally goes from Grønland through the city centre (check dates with the organiser).
• May to August – light nights: Long evenings and packed terraces make summer the best time to visit.
