Bilbao

Bilbao has transformed itself from an industrial hub into a city of design and good living – and the queer scene in the Casco Viejo is lively and warm-hearted too. Between pintxos bars, the Guggenheim and the Ría you’ll find small bars, drag cabaret and clubs that stay open until morning.

Casco Viejo & Bilbao La Vieja

The heart of the scene beats on Barrenkale in the old town: here Pavoneo, with cocktails and drag bingo, and Manolita La Primera, with Spanish retro hits, are right next door to each other. For a quieter start, the long-established Lamiak is a good choice. Later you cross the Ría to Bilbao La Vieja for drag cabaret at Badulake and dancing at El Balcón de la Lola.

When to go?

• June – Bilbao Bizkaia Harro: Pride with events across the second half of June, in 2026 including on 13, 19, 20, 27 and 28 June.
• June/July – Zinegoak: Bilbao’s international LGBTIQA+ film and performing arts festival, from 24 June to 1 July in 2026.

Practical tips

• The bars are mainly open from Thursday to Saturday – it’s quiet during the week.
