Zagreb

Zagreb is the queer centre of Croatia – smaller than its Pride would suggest, but with plenty of charm. If you are heading to the Adriatic, stop by here first, because there are hardly any dedicated gay venues on the coast.

Around Jelačić Square

In the centre, Hotpot on Petrinjska and Kolaž are only a few steps apart – ideal for an evening of drinks and drag. There are also gay-friendly places such as Funk Club on Tkalčićeva. The scene is liveliest from Thursday to Saturday.

When to go?

  • June – Zagreb Pride: in 2026 the 25th Pride parade set off from Zrinjevac through the city centre on 6 June – check the 2027 date with the organisers.

Practical tips

  • Croatia has had registered life partnerships since 2014; Zagreb is open, but in rural areas and away from the venues restraint is still advisable.
  • Hotpot and Kolaž are within walking distance of the main square.
  • Counter-events regularly take place during Pride – being out in a group on that day is a good idea.
