Bratislava

Bratislava is small, close to Vienna and has a scene that pulls together, especially in difficult times. Between the Queer Slovakia parties and the city’s only gay sauna, you will find more life here than you might expect.

Around the Old Town

Apollon Gay Club on Panenská, a fixture of the scene since 1995, closed in September 2026 – whether it will reopen is uncertain. For a quieter drink there is Papagayo, while Homomat and other Queer Slovakia party series fill changing clubs in the Old Town. For relaxation there is Club Sauna Expert, the city’s only gay sauna. Since the fatal attack outside the queer bar Tepláreň in 2022, which has since closed, the community has been more visible than ever.

When to go?

• July – Rainbow PRIDE Bratislava: a whole Pride month with a parade, stage programme and after-parties in the city-centre clubs (check the date with the organisers).
• All year – Queer Slovakia parties: series such as Homomat, Shame, Kiki Nation or Tutti Frutti run in changing clubs – dates on queerslovakia.sk.

Practical tips

• The political mood is tense: the 2025 constitutional amendment further restricts LGBTQ rights. Outside the venues, restraint with public displays of affection is advisable.
• Many parties do not take place in fixed bars – it is worth checking queerslovakia.sk and Instagram before going out.
• From Vienna, Bratislava can be reached by train or bus in around an hour – ideal for an evening trip.
