Vancouver

Between the mountains and the Pacific lies Canada’s most relaxed gay metropolis – with Davie Village at its heart. Around Davie Street with its rainbow-coloured zebra crossings, pubs, cocktail bars and clubs line up within a few blocks.

Davie Village

Almost everything is within walking distance on Davie Street in the West End. The classic is Numbers Cabaret, Vancouver’s oldest gay bar, and right next door people party to big-name DJs at Celebrities Nightclub. The bear and leather scene meets at the PumpJack Pub, there’s drag and dancing at The Junction, and cocktails at 1181. For a beer in the sun, the patio of the Fountainhead Pub is the first choice.

When to go?

  • August – Vancouver Pride: A waterfront parade and a big street festival in Davie Village on the BC Day weekend; on 2 August in 2026.
  • January/February – Whistler Pride & Ski Festival: A week of skiing and parties in nearby Whistler (check dates with the organiser).

Our favourites

  • Numbers Cabaret – the soul of Davie Street since 1980
  • Fountainhead Pub – the best patio in the Village

Practical tips

  • Davie Village is compact and within walking distance of the centre; English Bay beach is only a few minutes away.
  • Vancouver hasn’t had a dedicated lesbian bar for years – lesbian parties take place as roving events.
  • Pubs and clubs often ask for ID; the minimum drinking age in British Columbia is 19.
