Athens parties late, loud and warm-heartedly – and the city’s queer heart beats in Gazi. Between old industrial buildings and the Acropolis you’ll find bear bars, clubs until dawn and some of the best drag stages in Southeast Europe.

Gazi and around

Most venues are close together around Kerameikos metro station, so you can easily wander from bar to club. It’s best to start the evening at Big Bar before heading to Sodade2, Noiz or Shamone after midnight. If you love drag, head to the legendary Koukles in Koukaki or the younger BEqueer in the centre. There’s hardly anything going on in the clubs before midnight, but the party often goes on until 6am.

When to go?

  • June – Athens Pride: A festival and parade at Syntagma Square; in 2026 it took place on 13 June, with the parade starting in the evening.
  • May to October – summer season: Long, warm nights, lots of terraces and international guests; also ideal as a stopover before or after the islands.

Practical tips

  • Clubs only fill up after midnight – plan a late dinner, just like the Athenians themselves.
  • You can easily reach the Gazi area by metro to Kerameikos; at night taxis are cheap and plentiful.
  • Greece has allowed same-sex marriage since 2024; people in the city centre are open-minded, but a little restraint is still advisable in conservative neighbourhoods.
